Alderney is having a BallAfter joining the nationwide beacon chain when the President of the States of Alderney lit the Alderney beacon at 7.15 pm on Friday night, accompanied by a burst of fireworks,
11 of the Sir Nelson’s fleet of ships’ tables had been lined up for a superb Trafalgar dinner. Before dinner, some 110 revellers, dressed in black and gold attire – the chosen theme of the evening – were treated to the video show of the Alderney Theatre Group’s two much acclaimed outdoor performances of “Trafalgar - The Death of Nelson”. The play was sponsored by Wave Telecom and to see what happened, please go to http://www.alderney.net/index.php/pid/252 The show was narrated by Lady Hamilton, alias Andrée Gaydon-Smith who also played this prominent part in both performances. Master of Ceremony – though not wearing his uniform, was Captain Hardy, alias Robin Whicker who also made the Trafalgar Toast. Host of his table “Tonnant”, named after one of Nelson’s battle ships, was Jane Tyler, whose deceased husband Chris was a direct descendant of Captain Charles Tyler, the captain of “HMS Tonnant”. The Trafalgar Ball was hosted by the Alderney Branch of the RNLI and is expected to have raised in excess of £1,000 for the RNLI.
